The album is not complete and the jackets are in no particular order. I suspect that Blampied designed more dust jackets for Herbert Jenkins than I have found because some were only identified because Blampied had pasted the panel of some jackets into an album (see an example, left), probably retrospectively. The true first editions of these books sell for several thousand pounds but later impressions with the same jacket are less costly and quite common.Īs well as publishing first editions of new novels, the company also re-issued novels by Victorian authors such as Harrison Ainsworth, who had died in 1888, and gave them a striking new dust jacket to try to make up for their dreariness (see below).
